Residents of western Odisha's Jharsuguda district received a significant boost to their power infrastructure on Sunday with the inauguration of a new electricity sub-station. The facility, aimed at strengthening supply reliability, was commissioned by TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL).
Deputy CM Inaugurates Key Infrastructure Project
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo formally inaugurated the new 33/11 kV AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear) power sub-station located at Pokharasale. The event saw the presence of key dignitaries including MP Pradeep Purohit, Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan, and senior officials from TPWODL, led by CEO Parveen Verma.
Constructed with an investment of approximately ₹11 crore, this modern sub-station is set to transform the electricity experience for a large number of consumers. It will directly benefit over 5,000 domestic and commercial consumers across several villages. The areas set to gain include:
- Malidihi
- Lariapali
- Bairagidihi
- Muapada
- Rasdaga
- Pokharasale and its surroundings
Previously, these localities were dependent on the Kolabira power sub-station for their electricity needs.
Enhanced Reliability and Modern Technology
Officials from TPWODL outlined the tangible benefits the new installation will bring to the community. The primary improvements expected are:
- A significantly improved voltage profile.
- Enhanced reliability and stability of power supply.
- Reduced time required for power restoration after outages.
The sub-station is equipped with modern technology and advanced safety systems. It has been developed specifically to meet the rising energy demands of the region while ensuring efficient operations and superior consumer service.
A Step Towards a Digitalised and Sustainable Grid
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo stated that the project marks a crucial step forward in the digitalisation of Odisha's power grid. He emphasised that it will play a vital role in strengthening supply stability across the western region of the state.
Highlighting the successful collaboration between the Odisha state government and Tata Power, Singh Deo also urged consumers to leverage central and state schemes for renewable energy. He specifically encouraged the adoption of rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and Odisha's own utility-led aggregation model to avail subsidies.
Echoing the commitment to infrastructure development, TPWODL CEO Parveen Verma reiterated the company's dedication to upgrading the power network across western Odisha. This new sub-station in Jharsuguda stands as a concrete example of this ongoing effort to deliver consistent and quality electricity to consumers.
