Patna's Power Boost: Second 80 MVA Transformer Charged at GIS Grid Substation
New 80 MVA Transformer Energised in Patna's Board Colony

In a significant move to strengthen Patna's electrical infrastructure, a second high-capacity transformer was successfully energised at a key substation this week. This development promises to deliver more reliable electricity to local residents and businesses.

Key Infrastructure Upgrade Completed

The second transformer, with a capacity of 80 MVA (Mega Volt-Ampere), was charged on load at the Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) grid substation located in Board Colony, Patna, on Wednesday. The project was executed by the Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL). Company officials confirmed that the entire installation process followed strict technical standards and safety protocols to ensure a seamless integration into the existing grid.

Addressing Growing Demand and Stability

The commissioning of this new unit is a direct response to the increasing electricity consumption in the area. Rahul Kumar, the Managing Director of BSPTCL, had recently stressed the urgency of completing and energising this transformer work after a personal inspection. His directive underscored the project's priority for the power utility.

Officials state that the enhanced infrastructure is poised to substantially improve both the power supply capacity and the stability of the electrical grid in Board Colony and its neighbouring localities. This upgrade is strategically planned to cater to the projected growth in electricity demand over the coming years.

Relief from Power Disruptions

For end-users, the practical benefits are expected to be immediate and noticeable. The 80 MVA transformer is specifically tasked with alleviating overloading issues on the local grid network. A direct consequence of this should be a marked reduction in the frequency of unplanned power cuts and voltage fluctuations.

"The enhanced infrastructure will meet the growing demand of electricity in the coming years," said BSPTCL officials. They added that the new transformer should "provide much-needed relief to residents and businesses alike" by ensuring a more consistent and robust power supply.

This infrastructure augmentation in Patna represents a critical step in modernising Bihar's power transmission network, aiming to bridge the gap between supply and the region's escalating energy needs.
