Telangana Creates New Police Commissionerate for Future City Near Hyderabad
New Police Commissionerate for Hyderabad's Future City

In a significant move to accelerate the development of the proposed Future City on Hyderabad's outskirts, the Telangana government has undertaken a major administrative reshuffle. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's administration has reorganised the police structure, creating a dedicated police commissionerate for the envisioned fourth city in the Hyderabad region.

Administrative Overhaul for a New Urban Hub

The state government, indicating its seriousness about the ambitious Future City project, announced the reorganisation of police administration on Monday. This led to the creation of four new police commissionerates, aligning with the recent expansion of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the blueprint for Future City.

The previously existing three commissionerates—Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda—have been restructured. They are now replaced by the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City police commissionerates. The Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised and renamed as the Malkajgiri Commissionerate.

New Jurisdictions and Key Appointments

The jurisdictional map has been redrawn to streamline governance and law enforcement. The Hyderabad Commissionerate will now oversee critical areas including the Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport, and the Budvel High Court.

The Cyberabad Commissionerate retains its focus on the state's tech and industrial heartland. It will cover the rapidly developing IT corridors of Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, and Raidurg, along with industrial zones like Patancheru and Genome Valley.

The newly formed Malkajgiri Commissionerate will have jurisdiction over areas such as Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur, and Kompally. Furthermore, the Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri area, previously under Rachakonda, has been carved out as a separate police district headed by a Superintendent of Police (SP).

The dedicated Future City Police Commissionerate will encompass Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam. The government swiftly appointed commissioners for the new posts. Senior IPS officer G Sudheer Babu, formerly of Rachakonda, will head the Future City police. Avinash Mohanty moves from Cyberabad to lead the Malkajgiri commissionerate, while Dr M Ramesh takes charge of Cyberabad.

Linking to the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision

This administrative restructuring is a direct implementation of the state's broader development agenda. The move follows the unveiling of the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document at the Global Summit on December 9, which charts a roadmap to achieve a $3-trillion economy for the state by 2047.

According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the police reorganisation aims to provide better public services, maintain law and order, and control crime effectively by creating more focused administrative units. As part of this vision, the state has been divided into specific zones for targeted development.

The expansion of GHMC, which now includes 27 municipalities inside the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to form a Core Urban Region (CURE), has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards. Other government departments are expected to undergo similar restructuring.

Envisioned as a model for sustainable urban development and technological innovation, the Future City is planned to be located between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways. This latest step to establish a dedicated police force underscores the government's commitment to turning this vision into a tangible reality, positioning it as Hyderabad's fourth major urban centre after the main city, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad.
