Niti Mahajan Takes Charge as Nurpur MC Chairperson, Pledges Inclusive Development
Niti Mahajan Assumes Nurpur MC Chairperson Role

Nurpur Municipal Council (MC) chairperson Niti Mahajan, who was elected unopposed on Saturday, has pledged to work without political bias for the development of all nine wards and to strengthen civic amenities across the town.

Commitment to Inclusive Governance

Speaking to mediapersons on Sunday, Mahajan said although Congress-supported candidates had won six of the nine wards in the Municipal Council, her administration would ensure there is no discrimination against the three wards represented by BJP-supported councillors. She stressed that all elected members would function as a united team for the overall development of the historic town in Kangra district.

Key Priorities and Plans

Mahajan, who holds an MSc in Mathematics and a BEd degree, outlined the key priorities of the newly constituted civic body. These include improving sanitation across all localities, addressing the growing problem of stray animals, restarting the stalled construction of the Mother and Child Hospital building, reviving the sewerage scheme, and streamlining traffic management in the town in coordination with the district police.

She further stated that she and other Congress-supported councillors would soon meet the Chief Minister and the Public Works Department Minister to seek approval for important development projects for the town.

Continuing a Legacy of Service

Belonging to the family of noted philanthropist and former Nurpur MC president late RK Mahajan, Niti Mahajan said she would strive to carry forward her father-in-law’s legacy of public service while working selflessly to strengthen civic infrastructure and public amenities in the town. She also announced that she would donate her official honorarium for the welfare of needy residents.

Notably, late RK Mahajan served as president of the Municipal Council for two terms, while his wife Krishna Mahajan held the post of chairperson for three consecutive terms. With Niti Mahajan’s election, the family’s long association with the civic body continues, marking what will effectively be its sixth term in the municipal leadership.
