BJP President Nitin Nabin Postpones Bihar Assembly Resignation, Travels to Assam for Urgent Engagement
In a surprising turn of events, BJP president Nitin Nabin did not resign from his Bihar assembly membership on Sunday as originally scheduled. According to party sources, Nabin instead departed for poll-bound Assam due to what was described as an "urgent" engagement, leaving his resignation plans in limbo.
Speaker Prem Kumar Confirms Postponement Amid Holiday Wait
Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar revealed that he had arrived at his official chamber well in advance on Sunday morning, despite it being a holiday, expecting Nabin's resignation at 8:40 AM. "There was an emergency that led Nabin to leave. This has led to the postponement of his resignation," Kumar told reporters. He added that Nabin could still resign from his assembly membership by Monday, March 30, indicating flexibility in the timeline.
BJP Leaders Cite Pre-Fixed Assam Programs and Political Commitments
BJP media in-charge Danish Iqbal explained the situation, stating, "Nabin had many programmes scheduled in Assam on Sunday, as a result of which he left there by a chartered flight. He still has time to resign." A BJP spokesperson echoed this, noting that Nabin's travel to Assam involved a chartered plane for a pre-fixed program. Party sources further suggested that after Assam, Nabin might proceed to Delhi for an important meeting, underscoring the packed political agenda.
Coordination with CM Nitish Kumar's Rajya Sabha Nomination
This development comes as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a member of the Bihar legislative council, is also slated to resign from his House membership on Monday following his nomination to the Rajya Sabha. A BJP leader, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed hope, saying, "We hope both Nabin and Nitish, who have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar, will together resign on Monday." This highlights the strategic timing involved in their political transitions.
Speaker's Hasty Return from Delhi Amid Resignation Plans
Speaker Prem Kumar shared additional details about the logistical efforts behind the planned resignation. He mentioned that he was attending a function in Delhi when he received a call from state BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi regarding Nabin's expected resignation. "So, I hurriedly returned to Patna from Delhi on Saturday night itself," Kumar recounted, demonstrating the anticipation and preparation surrounding the event.
The postponement of Nabin's resignation adds a layer of intrigue to Bihar's political landscape, especially with the upcoming Rajya Sabha nominations and the broader context of Assam's election activities. Observers are now closely watching for Monday's developments, which could see coordinated resignations marking a significant shift in the state's political dynamics.
