BJP leader Nitin Nabin on Monday urged NDA alliance partners to replicate the party's 2017 assembly election performance in the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls, emphasizing a long-term vision for 2047. Speaking at a strategy meeting in Lucknow, Nabin highlighted the need for unity and focused campaigning to retain power in India's most populous state.
Call for Repeat Performance
Nabin, a key strategist for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, addressed representatives from allied parties, including the Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad Party. He stressed that the 2017 mandate, which gave the BJP an absolute majority with 312 seats, should serve as a benchmark. "We must not only match but exceed that achievement to ensure continued development and governance," he said, according to sources present at the meeting.
Focus on 2047 Vision
The leader linked the 2027 polls to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047, the centenary of independence. He outlined targets for infrastructure, education, and healthcare, arguing that a strong mandate in 2027 would be crucial for implementing long-term projects. "Every vote in 2027 will contribute to the India of 2047," Nabin was quoted as saying.
Strategy for 2027
The meeting also discussed caste equations and regional alliances. Nabin emphasized the importance of reaching out to non-Yadav OBCs and non-Jatav Dalits, groups that have traditionally supported the BJP. He also called for a robust campaign highlighting the Modi government's welfare schemes, such as free ration and housing.
Challenges Ahead
Political analysts note that the BJP faces anti-incumbency after a decade in power. The opposition Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, has been gaining ground. However, Nabin expressed confidence, citing the party's organizational strength and Modi's popularity.
The 2027 UP elections are expected to be a litmus test for the BJP's national leadership, with the state sending 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. A strong performance would boost the party's prospects for the 2029 general elections.
