In a significant boost to employment and the power infrastructure in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday presided over a major appointment letter distribution ceremony in Patna. A total of 2,390 candidates selected for various positions within the Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited and its subsidiary companies received their formal job offers.
A Major Employment Drive in the Energy Sector
The event, held at Vidyut Bhavan in the state capital, saw the CM symbolically handing over appointment letters to three selected candidates: Sunny Saket, Ashutosh Kumar, and Mohit Kumar Bhatt. The bulk of the new recruits comprise 1,810 technicians, along with 512 correspondence clerks and 68 store assistant personnel.
Addressing the gathering, Nitish Kumar extended his congratulations to all the new appointees. He expressed his expectations, stating, "I expect from all of you that you will work with full dedication and diligence and take Bihar further ahead." This mass recruitment is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the human resources of the state's power utilities.
Showcasing Bihar's Technological Prowess in Power Management
Prior to the distribution ceremony, the Chief Minister conducted a detailed inspection of the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) located within Vidyut Bhavan. He sought updates from officials about the centre's operations and arrangements.
According to a communique from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the SLDC plays a pivotal role in ensuring continuous and quality electricity supply across Bihar. It coordinates between power generation centres, transmission companies, and distribution companies operating both within and outside the state. The centre, situated on the fourth floor of Vidyut Bhavan, functions 24x7 in three shifts managed by electrical engineers.
National Firsts and Pioneering Systems
The CMO note highlighted several groundbreaking achievements. Bihar is the first state in the eastern region to implement such an advanced load dispatch system, which has brought transparency in energy accounting and improved billing accuracy by reducing transmission losses.
Furthermore, the state has installed a new Automated System Balancing Mechanism (ASBM) at the centre. This technology ensures optimal utilisation of purchased power and minimises load shedding for consumers, with real-time monitoring of electricity supply—a pioneering experiment in the entire country.
Adding another layer of innovation, the centre houses a Cyber Security Operation Centre equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities. Operating round-the-clock, this facility is the country's first of its kind and was awarded the distinction of being the nation's "excellent centre" last year for its role in safeguarding the power grid's digital infrastructure.
The day's events underscored the Bihar government's dual focus on generating substantial employment opportunities while simultaneously modernising the state's critical power infrastructure with cutting-edge, nationally recognised technology.
