Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Unveils Major Development Initiatives in Bhagalpur
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a comprehensive series of development projects valued at more than Rs 442 crore in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday. During his Samriddhi Yatra and Jan Samvad program at Baijani under Jagdishpur block, Kumar delivered a powerful address contrasting the condition of Bihar before 2005 with the transformative progress achieved under the NDA government's leadership.
Contrasting Eras: From Lawlessness to Development
In his speech, Kumar painted a stark picture of Bihar's past, stating, "In the years before 2005, the state was left in a terrible situation with extremely poor law-and-order conditions and widespread lawlessness. People lived in fear, often afraid to leave their homes in the evenings. Critical sectors like education, healthcare services, electricity supply, and road infrastructure were in complete ruins." This oblique reference to earlier regimes highlighted what he described as systemic failures that plagued the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the situation underwent a dramatic reversal following the NDA's assumption of power in 2005. "When our NDA government took office, we prioritized restoring social and religious harmony across Bihar. We worked diligently to stop Hindu-Muslim clashes and other social discords that had previously destabilized communities," Kumar explained, underscoring his administration's foundational focus on peace and stability.
Substantial Infrastructure and Social Welfare Investments
The development schemes launched include:
- Foundation stones for 56 new projects worth Rs 271 crore
- Inauguration of 88 completed schemes valued at Rs 171 crore
Kumar detailed the government's multifaceted approach to development: "Since 2005, our government has implemented comprehensive reforms across healthcare by establishing new medical colleges and hospitals in multiple districts. We have revolutionized the educational sector while constructing extensive networks of roads, bridges, and culverts to connect even the most remote villages to urban centers through pucca roads."
On-Ground Inspections and Community Engagement
During his visit, the Chief Minister personally inspected the integrated development of a large pond at Baijani, executed under the ambitious Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan. He also laid the foundation stone for a marriage pavilion under the Chief Minister's Kanya Vivah Mandap scheme, demonstrating the administration's commitment to social welfare initiatives.
Kumar conducted thorough reviews of ongoing development and welfare schemes with district officials, directing them to ensure timely completion of all projects within stipulated timeframes. His engagement extended to direct interactions with beneficiaries and visits to stalls showcasing government welfare initiatives designed for farmers, women, youth, and disadvantaged sections of society.
Acknowledging Central Government Support
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Kumar highlighted the crucial support from the central government. "The Centre under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi since 2014 has provided and continues to provide steady, unwavering support to the NDA government in Bihar. This partnership has been instrumental in delivering benefits to the people of Bihar, and we expect this collaborative effort to continue," he stated, emphasizing the cooperative federalism between state and central administrations.
The program was attended by senior leaders and officials who witnessed the launch of these significant development initiatives aimed at accelerating Bihar's growth trajectory and improving quality of life for its residents.
