CM Nitish Kumar Inspects Key Infrastructure Projects in Bakhtiyarpur, Patna
Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted a comprehensive inspection of several critical development projects in and around his hometown of Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district on Saturday. He issued directives to officials to accelerate the progress on key infrastructure initiatives, including an under-construction railway overbridge (ROB), a new building for his alma mater school, and the Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur four-lane bridge spanning the Ganga River.
Railway Overbridge to Boost Connectivity
The Chief Minister began his tour by examining the ROB situated near the Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College (BEC). He emphasized the urgency of completing this project, which links National Highway-30 and State Highway-106. "Once operational, this ROB will seamlessly connect the old Patna–Bakhtiyarpur road (SH-106) with the new four-lane NH-30, significantly easing traffic congestion and saving travel time," Nitish Kumar stated. He highlighted that the improved connectivity would benefit both BEC and Patliputra University, facilitating smoother access for students and faculty members. Officials assured him that the construction of the two-lane ROB is on track for completion this month.
School Building and Park Development
Next, Nitish Kumar reviewed the construction of the new five-storey building for Ganesh Higher Secondary School in Bakhtiyarpur, which features 45 classrooms. "The construction must be finalized at the earliest to prevent any inconvenience to the students," he instructed. During his visit to the old school building, he reminisced, "I studied here during my childhood, and it holds many cherished memories." Additionally, he directed officials to expedite the development of a park near the statue of freedom fighter Late Dumar Singh, located adjacent to the school campus.
Four-Lane Bridge Over the Ganga
The Chief Minister then inspected the under-construction Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan)–Tajpur (Samastipur) four-lane bridge and its approach road over the Ganga River. Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal provided an update, indicating that work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Nitish Kumar urged officials to further speed up the project, underscoring its strategic importance. "This bridge will play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity between North and South Bihar, easing public movement, and reducing traffic load on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu," he explained. "It will serve as an alternative route for vehicles traveling from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and Begusarai."
A crowd gathered at the site to welcome the Chief Minister, expressing gratitude for the ongoing development works. The Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur four-lane bridge and approach road project extends from NH-31 near Karjan in Patna district to NH-28 at Tajpur in Samastipur district, covering a total length of 51.26 kilometers. This includes a 5.51-kilometer bridge over the Ganga and a 45.75-kilometer approach road, promising to transform regional transportation infrastructure.
