CM Nitish Kumar Oversees Preparations for Malmas Mela 2026 in Rajgir

In a significant move to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Malmas Mela, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired a high-level review meeting at the International Convention Centre in Rajgir on Saturday. The CM issued detailed directives to officials from Nalanda district, emphasizing the need for meticulous planning to accommodate the expected influx of lakhs of devotees during the month-long fair scheduled from May 15 to June 15, 2026, at the Brahma Kund in Rajgir.

Comprehensive Arrangements for Devotees

During the meeting, CM Nitish Kumar stressed the importance of making complete arrangements to prevent any inconvenience for the large number of pilgrims. He specifically highlighted key areas such as accommodation, drinking water, cleanliness, basic amenities, and robust security measures. "A large number of devotees visit Rajgir during the Malmas Mela. Keep every route towards Rajgir in good condition to ensure people face no inconvenience in movement. This year too, there is a possibility of a huge turnout of people. Keeping this in mind, take special care of their accommodation, medical, security and other necessary facilities so that the devotees face no difficulties," Nitish stated.

He further instructed officials to deploy trained police forces in the Mela premises to maintain control and ensure public safety. "Keep trained police forces alert in the Mela premises so that the situation remains controlled and people remain safe," he added, underscoring the critical role of security during the event.

Infrastructure and Water Supply Inspections

Prior to the review meeting, CM Nitish Kumar visited Motnaje village in Nawada district, where he inspected the 'Gangaji Rajgriha reservoir'. Accompanied by state officials, he toured the reservoir complex and reviewed the ongoing implementation of the Gangaji water supply scheme. Officials briefed him on the installation of iron fencing around the reservoir for enhanced security, as per his earlier directives.

Nitish emphasized the scheme's success in providing pure drinking water to residents in Gaya, Bodhgaya, Nawada, and Rajgir urban areas. "People in Gaya, Bodhgaya, Nawada and Rajgir urban areas are being provided Gangaji water as pure drinking water under the Gangaji water supply scheme. Continue to provide pure Gangaji water to people continuously. There should be no hindrance of any kind in the water supply. Keep this reservoir complex organised, clean and environment-friendly," he told officials at Motnaje.

Tourist Facilities and Additional Reviews

Accompanied by Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar and Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar, the CM also inspected the 'Griddhakut Bhavan' in Rajgir. He examined the new ropeway passing through the facility and sought updates on tourist amenities. Nitish directed that all facilities should be efficiently managed to ensure a hassle-free experience for visitors during the Mela.

Nalanda District Magistrate Kundan Kumar provided a comprehensive briefing on the current preparations for the Malmas Mela, highlighting ongoing efforts to meet the CM's directives. The review underscores the state government's commitment to hosting a successful and well-organized religious event, catering to the needs of devotees and tourists alike.
