Odisha CM's cousin dies of heart attack in Bhubaneswar

Keonjhar: Dinabandhu Majhi (54), the elder cousin of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, passed away in Bhubaneswar in the early hours of Wednesday. The chief minister, deeply saddened by the news, rushed to his native Raikala village in Keonjhar district in the afternoon to attend the last rites.

A large number of local residents and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers also gathered at the village to pay their last respects to the deceased. Sources revealed that Dinabandhu, who worked at a local industrial plant, was staying at a government quarter in the Lower PMG area of Bhubaneswar. He reportedly complained of chest pain around 1 am and was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

“His condition was normal during the day. He suddenly developed chest pain late at night,” said Jagannath Mudi, an aide of the deceased. Following the incident, the mortal remains were transported to his native village under Sadar block in Keonjhar district for the final rites.

The untimely demise of Dinabandhu Majhi has cast a pall of gloom over the family and the local community. The chief minister, known for his close bond with his cousin, was visibly emotional as he participated in the funeral proceedings. The incident highlights the suddenness of health emergencies and the importance of timely medical intervention.

Dinabandhu Majhi is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. His sudden death has left the family and friends in shock. The local administration extended all necessary support to the family during this difficult time.

The chief minister's office confirmed that the CM would remain in his village for the day to be with his family and oversee the funeral arrangements. Security has been tightened in the area in view of the CM's presence.
