In a tragic incident in Karnataka’s Davangere district, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus overturned on Thursday, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to 30 others. The accident occurred near the town of Davangere when the bus, traveling from Davangere to Bengaluru, lost control and toppled over.
Details of the Accident
The bus was carrying approximately 50 passengers at the time of the mishap. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve, causing the bus to veer off the road and overturn. The deceased has been identified as a 45-year-old man, while the injured include several women and children. All injured persons were rushed to the Davangere District Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital authorities reported that the condition of three passengers is critical, while the others are out of danger.
Rescue and Response
Local residents and police personnel immediately rushed to the spot to assist in rescue efforts. The injured were extricated from the wreckage with the help of cranes and other equipment. Senior district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, visited the hospital to assess the situation and ensure proper medical care for the victims. The KSRTC management has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and free treatment for the injured.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that overspeeding or driver fatigue might have led to the loss of control. The bus driver has been detained for questioning. Authorities are also checking the vehicle’s maintenance records to rule out mechanical failure.
