The opposition in Maharashtra has launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after he was seen riding a motorcycle with an expired Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate to Vidhan Bhavan. The incident occurred when Fadnavis, with state Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar riding pillion, travelled on a Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle to attend the swearing-in ceremony of 10 newly elected MLCs.
Opposition's Reaction
Opposition leaders questioned the double standards of the government, asking whether the police would now issue a challan to the Chief Minister for violating traffic norms. They pointed out that common citizens are fined for such violations, but those in power seem to enjoy immunity.
Details of the Incident
Fadnavis and Shelar were photographed arriving at Vidhan Bhavan on the motorcycle. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the vehicle's PUC certificate had expired. The opposition demanded strict action, including a fine and an apology from the Deputy CM.
This is not the first time Fadnavis has been in the spotlight for a traffic violation. Earlier, he was criticized for using a vehicle without a proper number plate. The opposition has accused the BJP-led government of fostering a culture of impunity among its leaders.
Meanwhile, ruling party supporters defended Fadnavis, calling it a minor oversight and accusing the opposition of making a mountain out of a molehill. They argued that the Deputy CM's gesture of riding a bike was in line with the government's push for eco-friendly transport.
The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with many users demanding equal treatment under the law. Traffic police officials have remained tight-lipped on whether any action will be taken.
