In a distressing incident highlighting alleged administrative and managerial failure, the remains of more than a hundred cattle were discovered at a cowshed in Kanpur district. The grim find has triggered widespread anger and calls for stringent action against those responsible.
Gruesome Discovery in Sikhrana Village
The incident came to light on Saturday afternoon in village Sikhrana, located in the development block area of Kanpur. A team from the Gau Rakshak Dal, led by its leader Akshat Thakur, visited the facility after receiving troubling information about cattle deaths. What they encountered was a scene of utter neglect and tragedy.
Thakur and his associates found the decaying remains of over a hundred cows. They alleged that the deaths were not an isolated event but a continuing catastrophe, with additional animals having perished in the preceding two to three days, their bodies still lying unattended at the site.
Allegations of Severe Negligence
The Gau Rakshak Dal has leveled serious accusations against the cowshed management and local authorities. According to the organization, the facility was critically lacking in basic amenities essential for animal survival.
The primary causes cited for the mass deaths were the absence of adequate fodder and drinking water. This prolonged neglect led to a rapid deterioration in the health of the cattle, ultimately resulting in their deaths. The organization further claimed that despite being aware of the dire situation, concerned officials failed to take any concrete or timely steps to prevent the tragedy.
Viral Video and Public Outcry
A video from the site, which has gone viral on social media platforms, paints a harrowing picture. The footage shows stray dogs roaming freely among the carcasses, a stark visual that underscores the scale of abandonment and administrative apathy.
This visual evidence has amplified public fury. Locals have expressed deep resentment over the incident, questioning the mechanisms in place for the protection and welfare of cattle in the region. Leader Akshat Thakur has demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter and strict punitive action against the guilty parties, holding both the cowshed management and negligent officials accountable.
The case has put a spotlight on the implementation of animal welfare schemes and the monitoring of shelters meant for bovine protection in Uttar Pradesh.
