Coimbatore: More than 900 police personnel participated in a flag march in the city on Saturday as part of security preparations ahead of the assembly election vote counting. The march was organized by the city police to reassure the public and demonstrate their readiness to maintain law and order during the counting process scheduled for May 4 at the Government College of Technology.
Leadership and Participation
The march was led by City Police Commissioner N Kannan. Deputy Commissioners of Police N Devanathan, G Karthikeyan, S Ashok Kumar, and Raj Khanna (Armed Reserve Police), along with other police personnel, took part in the exercise. The large-scale deployment included more than 900 personnel, 120 from central armed police forces, and over 50 police vehicles.
Route and Objective
The flag march commenced from Semmozhi Park near Gandhipuram and concluded at Tatabad via Nanjappa Road. According to an official source, the visible police presence was intended to boost public confidence and ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the vote counting. The exercise aimed to send a strong message about the security arrangements in place.
This proactive measure underscores the commitment of the Coimbatore police to maintain order and provide a secure environment for the democratic process. The march also served as a show of force to deter any potential disruptions during the counting day.
