AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi to Launch 2027 UP Poll Campaign in Bahraich on June 14
Owaisi to Launch AIMIM's 2027 UP Campaign in Bahraich

Lucknow: Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), is set to launch his party's election campaign for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections with a public meeting in Bahraich on June 14.

Owaisi's Itinerary

According to party officials, Owaisi will first visit the Dargah of Syed Salar Masood Ghazi before addressing a public meeting near Shankarpur intersection in the Matera assembly constituency, currently represented by Samajwadi Party MLA Mariya Shah.

Campaign Launch Confirmed

AIMIM state president Shauquat Ali confirmed the visit and public meeting schedule while speaking to the media. He described the event as the formal launch of AIMIM's poll campaign for the 2027 assembly elections.

Shauquat Ali stated that the party plans to contest around 200 seats if it goes solo and does not enter any political alliance. This marks a significant increase from the 96 seats contested in 2022 and 38 seats in 2017.

Potential Alliance with BSP

When asked about possible alliances, Shauquat Ali indicated that the party's natural ally would be the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). He argued that Muslims and Dalits together account for nearly 40% of the vote share, which he believes is enough to defeat both the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Past Performance

In the 2022 assembly elections, AIMIM contested 96 seats, primarily in Muslim-dominated constituencies. Despite performing well in local body polls prior to both the 2017 and 2022 elections, the party has yet to open its account in the Uttar Pradesh assembly. The upcoming campaign aims to change that trajectory.
