Patna District Administration Intensifies Monitoring of LPG Supply Chain
In a significant move to ensure uninterrupted domestic energy supply, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M conducted a comprehensive review of the availability and distribution of LPG cylinders across Patna district. The high-level meeting, held on Sunday, brought together senior police officials, municipal authorities, and representatives from various gas companies to address consumer concerns and streamline operations.
Current LPG Infrastructure and Consumption Patterns
The district magistrate revealed that Patna currently has 136 LPG agencies serving a massive consumer base of 16.65 lakh households. These agencies handle an impressive daily volume of approximately 25,000-30,000 bookings and facilitate around 35,000 deliveries each day. To date, the district has processed a total of 10.50 lakh bookings, indicating robust demand for clean cooking fuel among residents.
Administrative Measures to Combat Malpractices
Authorities have been directed to maintain strict vigilance against black marketing, hoarding, and overpricing of LPG cylinders. The administration has issued clear instructions to file FIRs and arrest individuals found engaging in such illegal practices. To enhance enforcement capabilities, the district has deployed 28 block-level rapid response teams, each led by supply officers, specifically tasked with addressing consumer complaints promptly.
Sub-divisional officers are conducting regular inspections and surprise raids at dealer premises, while sector and zonal magistrates are monitoring commercial establishments to prevent the unauthorized use of domestic cylinders. The DM emphasized that any negligence by officials or distributors will be prosecuted under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), demonstrating the administration's serious approach to maintaining supply chain integrity.
Promoting Alternative Energy Solutions
To reduce dependency on traditional cylinder-based systems, the administration is actively promoting piped natural gas (PNG) connections through GAIL. Special camps are being organized across the district to facilitate a smooth digital transition from cylinders to piped connections, offering residents a more convenient and continuous energy solution for their cooking needs.
Public Assurance and Grievance Redressal
District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M categorically stated that there is no shortage of LPG in Patna and urged citizens to avoid panic booking or crowding at agency offices. He clarified that oil marketing companies are providing direct home delivery services to ensure convenience and safety for consumers.
The administration has activated a 24x7 district control room with a dedicated helpline number featuring five hunting lines. This facility enables real-time coordination with gas companies based on public feedback and helps resolve grievances efficiently. The comprehensive approach aims to create a transparent and responsive system that prioritizes consumer welfare while maintaining supply chain discipline.
