PM Modi Directs BJP to Counter DMK on Tamil Nadu Finances and Fund Utilization
In a strategic move ahead of the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued clear instructions to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries to aggressively target the M K Stalin-led government in Tamil Nadu. The focus is on the state's financial situation and what the party describes as a failure to effectively utilize funds allocated by the Centre.
Review Meeting in Chennai Sets Election Tone
Chairing a crucial meeting with members of the BJP's Tamil Nadu core committee at a city hotel on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi reviewed poll preparedness and directed leaders to gear up with a robust counter narrative against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during the election campaign. The two-hour-long interaction involved detailed discussions on ground-level feedback and strategies to counter the DMK's narrative, particularly on language sentiment and fund allocation for various schemes.
"Our leader sought ground-level feedback and discussed strategies to counter the DMK's narrative against BJP, particularly on language sentiment and fund allocation for various schemes. He instructed us to prepare a strong counter narrative as the campaign enters the final stage," a senior BJP functionary revealed, highlighting the Prime Minister's hands-on approach.
Modi also held one-on-one discussions with some leaders, seeking their personal views to refine the party's strategy. The meeting was attended by key figures including Union Minister and Tamil Nadu BJP in-charge Piyush Goyal, state BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran, and former state presidents K Annamalai, L Murugan, and Tamilisai Soundararajan, along with Vanathi Srinivasan.
Boosting BJP's Performance in Assembly Elections
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi encouraged senior leaders to work diligently towards improving the party's performance in the upcoming Assembly election. Sources indicate that the leadership is keen to avoid a drop in the party's tally, with discussions centering on strengthening the campaign efforts.
In the 2021 Assembly election, the BJP won four of the 20 seats it contested. This time, the party has been allotted 27 seats in an alliance led by the AIADMK, signaling a more aggressive push. To support this, BJP chief ministers, including Devendra Fadnavis, Rekha Gupta, Yogi Adityanath, Mohan Yadav, and Bhajan Lal Sharma, along with other national-level leaders, are likely to campaign for the party starting next week.
Extended Role for Piyush Goyal and Broader Campaign Strategy
Sources added that Piyush Goyal's stay in Tamil Nadu is likely to be extended, underscoring the party's commitment to a sustained campaign. Later in the day, Goyal interacted with journalists, targeting the DMK government over governance issues and rising debt, which is seen as part of the BJP's broader strategy to corner the ruling party.
This coordinated effort reflects the BJP's determination to address key voter concerns and present a compelling alternative narrative as the election campaign intensifies.
