PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, accusing him of ignoring the pressing concerns of farmers in the state. The criticism comes in the wake of Vijay's visit to Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), where he participated in a public meeting organized by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on June 1 to express gratitude to voters.
Anbumani's Allegations
Anbumani, the leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), stated that the Chief Minister's focus on political rallies rather than addressing agrarian distress highlights his disconnect from the farming community. He emphasized that issues such as inadequate crop prices, water scarcity, and debt relief remain unresolved, despite repeated appeals from farmer unions.
Trichy Rally Context
CM Vijay's visit to Trichy was part of a statewide tour to thank supporters following his party's recent electoral success. The TVK-organized event drew large crowds, but Anbumani argued that such gatherings serve only political interests while neglecting the real needs of the people, particularly farmers in rural areas.
Key Concerns Raised: The PMK leader listed several unresolved demands, including implementation of the Swaminathan Committee recommendations, loan waivers, and assured procurement at minimum support prices. He also criticized the state government for failing to provide adequate compensation for crop losses due to erratic weather.
Anbumani's remarks have added to the ongoing political friction between the PMK and TVK, with the former accusing the ruling party of prioritizing electoral gains over governance. The PMK has been a vocal advocate for farmer rights in Tamil Nadu, often clashing with the state government on agricultural policies.
As of now, the Chief Minister's office has not issued an official response to Anbumani's allegations. However, political analysts suggest that the exchange could intensify ahead of upcoming local body elections, where farmer votes are expected to play a crucial role.
