Mukund Tiwari, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) general secretary and a former corporator, raised the issue publicly on Tuesday. He stated that the city's sanitation infrastructure has collapsed following the deployment of sanitation staff to the Systematic Inspection and Resolution (SIR) campaign. This has led to a severe shortage of workers for routine cleanliness duties.
Mounting Garbage and Public Anger
Tiwari described a grim scene across many parts of the holy city. Heaps of garbage are accumulating on streets, and drains are blocked, creating unhygienic conditions. The Congress leader emphasized that public frustration is growing daily due to the pervasive filth, but their complaints are falling on deaf ears.
"The condition in most municipal wards is in dire straits, and the municipal authorities are in a deep slumber," Tiwari alleged. He criticized the lack of responsiveness from the civic administration to the escalating problem.
Memorandum Submitted, Official Directive Issued
To address the pressing issue, Mukund Tiwari, along with other Congress workers and local residents, submitted a formal memorandum to the additional municipal commissioner. Their primary demand was for the civic body to make immediate alternative arrangements to restore and improve sanitation services across Prayagraj.
Responding to the complaint, the additional municipal commissioner has directed the municipal health officer to resolve the sanitation crisis at the earliest. This official directive acknowledges the severity of the situation and puts the onus on the health department to implement a swift cleanup plan.
