Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Inaugurates Prepaid Taxi Service in Shimla
In a significant move to boost tourism and local transport, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu officially launched a prepaid taxi service at the ISBT Tutikandi in Shimla on Tuesday. This initiative is designed to ensure greater transparency and enhance passenger safety across the region.
How the New Prepaid System Works
Under the newly implemented system, commuters can now book taxis directly at a dedicated prepaid counter. Passengers are required to make an advance payment and receive a payment slip, which must be presented to the taxi driver at the start of the journey. Upon completion of the trip, drivers submit this slip at the counter to collect their fare, eliminating any potential disputes over charges.
Coverage and Operational Details
The prepaid taxi service will cover an extensive network, including 26 key locations within Shimla. Additionally, it will operate on two major routes: one to Chandigarh International Airport and another to Chandigarh city. A fleet of 115 vehicles, managed by the local taxi union, has been deployed to support this service, ensuring reliable and efficient transportation options for both tourists and residents.
Benefits for Passengers and Drivers
By paying fares in advance, passengers can avoid confusion and disagreements over pricing, leading to a smoother and more predictable travel experience. This system not only promotes fair pricing but also enhances safety by providing a structured and accountable framework for taxi operations.
Chief Minister's Statement on the Initiative
Addressing the launch event, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that this initiative aims to benefit both tourists and local communities. He highlighted that the prepaid service will deliver transparent, fair, and safe taxi services, contributing to the overall development of Himachal Pradesh's transport infrastructure and boosting its appeal as a tourist destination.
