Pune Corporators Demand Expedited Infrastructure Work in Aundh-Bopodi
Corporators representing the Aundh-Bopodi area in Pune have made a formal appeal to civic chief Naval Kishore Ram, urging him to accelerate the pace of ongoing infrastructure and development projects within their wards. This call to action follows a comprehensive joint meeting and inspection drive conducted in the region on Tuesday, which saw the active participation of the civic chief alongside local elected representatives.
Inspection Drive Yields Positive Directions
Deputy mayor Parashuram Wadekar, who spearheaded the delegation, reported that the inspection concluded on an optimistic note. Civic chief Ram has issued directives for officials to formulate concrete and actionable plans aimed at completing the multitude of pending infrastructure works. Wadekar emphasized that regular review meetings will be instituted under the civic chief's guidance to ensure consistent follow-up with the relevant civic authorities.
Local corporators Sunny Nimhan, Sapna Chhajed, and Bhakti Gaikwad were also in attendance during the detailed inspection tour. The corporators collectively highlighted that several critical projects have been advancing at a sluggish pace due to various administrative and logistical hurdles. They have pressed the civic administration to prioritize and resolve these impediments without further delay.
Key Projects and Areas of Concern
The inspection encompassed a wide array of sites and proposed developments, including:
- Sports stadiums and the pending work at the hockey stadium.
- The proposed site for a new civic garden in Bopodi, which officials reviewed and expect to finalize shortly.
- Overhead water tanks and the completion of water distribution lines from these newly constructed storage facilities.
- The study centre and library, where remaining work needs to be finished.
- Expediting construction work on the Vipasana Vihar project.
Deputy Mayor Wadekar provided context, noting that Aundh and Bopodi are experiencing rapid development but also contain slum pockets and densely populated localities. He stated, "The region serves as a crucial link between the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) areas. However, it has not received adequate attention, resulting in significant delays in essential development works. This is precisely why we requested the civic chief to personally inspect the area."
Resident Concerns Addressed
During the discussions, the concerns of local residents were brought to the forefront. Key issues raised include:
- Frequent and severe traffic congestion at major junctions such as Ambedkar Chowk, the Khadki Road stretch, and Bhau Patil Road.
- A pressing need for improved safety and security measures throughout the area to protect the growing population.
- The urgent requirement for reliable and enhanced water supply infrastructure to meet the demands of development.
The corporators' push for accelerated action underscores the critical need for synchronized and efficient civic planning in Pune's expanding urban landscape. The directive from the civic chief to prepare concrete plans signals a potential shift towards more accountable and timely project execution in the Aundh-Bopodi corridor.
