Pune Municipal Corporation Prepares Extensive Medical Support for Elections
The Pune Municipal Corporation's health department is taking comprehensive measures to ensure health and safety during the upcoming municipal elections. Over 900 medical units will be deployed across the city to assist employees, officers, and voters.
Medical Facilities at Polling Stations
Dr. Neena Borade, the health department chief, confirmed that necessary health facilities will be available at all polling stations. Special attention will be given to elderly voters, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illnesses. A quick response system has been established to handle any emergencies that may arise.
Medical teams, ambulances, medicines, and first-aid facilities will be present at major polling and counting centers on both voting day and counting day. This extensive preparation aims to create a safe environment for everyone participating in the democratic process.
Ambulance Deployment and Healthcare Workers
The corporation will station fifteen PMC ambulances and ten 108 ambulances at multiple strategic locations throughout Pune. Additionally, staff nurses and ASHA workers will be appointed booth-wise across fifteen regional offices.
Dr. Borade emphasized that more than 900 medical units will cover all polling booths in the city. This massive deployment represents one of the most comprehensive medical support systems ever organized for municipal elections in Pune.
Extended Operational Hours for Healthcare Facilities
External outpatient departments, hospitals, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under the PMC's health department jurisdiction will remain operational from 7 AM until the completion of the polling process. These facilities will provide continuous medical support throughout election day.
Circle medical officers and medical officers at regional offices have been appointed as nodal officers for all election-related medical work. This structured approach ensures clear responsibility and efficient coordination of medical services.
Accessibility and Emergency Response
Wheelchair facilities will be available at each polling booth under the jurisdiction of respective hospitals, private hospitals, and the social development department. This initiative aims to make voting accessible to all citizens, regardless of physical limitations.
Medical services at OPDs, hospitals, and Ayushman Health Centres will open early and remain functional until the election process concludes. This extended availability ensures immediate care can be arranged in case of emergencies.
Immediate Medical Response Protocol
Dr. Borade detailed the emergency response protocol for election day. If any voter or employee experiences symptoms such as dizziness, blood pressure fluctuations, low blood sugar, or breathing difficulties, the medical team at the center will provide immediate first aid.
When necessary, patients will be quickly transferred to the nearest government hospital for further treatment. This two-tier system of on-site care and hospital referral ensures comprehensive medical coverage during the electoral process.
