Pune Police Bust Bungalow Party, Seize Liquor and Ganja

Pune police conducted a major raid on a private bungalow party late Friday night, detaining over 150 attendees and seizing large quantities of liquor, ganja, and banned hookah products. The operation, carried out by a joint team from the crime branch and local police stations, targeted an upscale residential property in the Baner area known for hosting unauthorized events.

Details of the Raid

According to officials, the raid began around 11:30 PM after a tip-off about a large gathering involving suspected substance abuse. Upon arrival, police found the party in full swing with loud music, dim lighting, and attendees consuming alcohol and drugs. Preliminary investigations revealed that the event was organized without proper permissions from the excise department or local authorities.

Authorities confiscated several bottles of foreign and domestic liquor, over two kilograms of ganja, and multiple hookah units that violated the state ban on hookah bars. The seized items are estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees. Police also impounded sound systems and other equipment used for the party.

Legal Action and Enforcement

All 150 attendees were taken to the nearest police station for questioning. Organizers face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Maharashtra Prohibition of Smoking and Spitting Act, and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for public nuisance and endangering public health. Police have registered a case and are investigating the source of the contraband.

This crackdown is part of a broader enforcement drive by Pune police to curb illegal parties and substance abuse. In recent months, the city has witnessed several high-profile incidents, including a rave party in Koregaon Park and a hookah lounge bust in Hinjewadi, prompting stricter monitoring of nightlife venues.

Public Reaction and Safety Concerns

Residents of the upscale neighborhood expressed relief over the police action. Many had complained about noise and suspicious activity at the bungalow. "Such parties are a menace to society, especially for young people," said a local resident. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious gatherings to the police helpline.

Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar reiterated that strict action would be taken against any illegal event. "We have zero tolerance for substance abuse and unauthorized parties. This operation sends a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated," he said.

The crackdown comes amid heightened enforcement against private gatherings and nightlife events in Pune following a series of high-profile incidents that have brought issues of substance abuse, excise violations, and event regulation under public scrutiny. The police have vowed to continue surprise checks and raids across the city to ensure compliance with laws.
