Historic Move: Punjab Assembly Session Outside Chandigarh
In a landmark decision that breaks from tradition, the Punjab government has organized a special session of the state legislative assembly at the Bhai Jaita Ji memorial in Anandpur Sahib, Ropar. This marks the first time the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has convened outside its regular Chandigarh premises, creating a significant moment in the state's political and cultural history.
Tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur's Sacrifice
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains confirmed that this unique arrangement was established specifically to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. The minister emphasized that the special session, held on November 24, serves as a profound homage to the Guru's extraordinary sacrifice for protecting religious faith and principles.
The entire area of the Bhai Jaita Ji memorial at Anandpur Sahib has been designated as the precinct for this temporary assembly complex, which is hosting the 10th session of the legislative body. This strategic location choice underscores the deep historical and spiritual significance of the site.
Extended Access for Visitors
The state government has announced that the complex will remain accessible to the public until November 29, providing an extended opportunity for visitors to experience this historic setup. Minister Bains detailed that three tent cities have been established along with dedicated parking facilities to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.
Adding to the visitor experience, a special drone show has been organized as part of the commemorative events. These facilities and attractions will be available to the Sangat (congregation) throughout the opening period, enhancing the overall experience of this historic occasion.
This innovative approach to holding legislative proceedings demonstrates the Punjab government's commitment to honoring historical traditions while creating new pathways for public engagement with democratic institutions.
