Punjab Chief Minister Announces Major Industrial and Welfare Initiatives

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made significant announcements on Monday during the debate on the governor's address in the Punjab assembly. He revealed that Tata Steel's manufacturing plant in Ludhiana will be inaugurated on March 20, marking a major industrial milestone for the state.

Tata Steel Plant and Investment Boost

Mann stated that the Rs 3,200-crore project by Tata Steel is set to become the company's second-largest facility in India after Jamshedpur. The plant is expected to generate 400 direct jobs, providing a substantial economic boost to the region. The chief minister attributed this and other investments to his recent visits to Japan, South Korea, and other countries, which acted as catalysts for attracting foreign capital.

He highlighted a Rs 1,300 crore investment by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in horticulture, showcasing Punjab's growing appeal to international investors. Additionally, Mann announced the upcoming Punjab Progressive Investment Summit scheduled from March 13 to 15, aimed at further promoting industrial growth.

Expansion of Pilgrimage and Welfare Schemes

In a move to support religious tourism, Mann announced the expansion of the 'Mukh Mantri Tirath Yojna'. Under this scheme, train journeys will be arranged to Takht Patna Sahib in Bihar and Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra, enabling devotees to pay obeisance at all five Sikh takhts. This initiative is designed to facilitate pilgrimage for Sikh communities across India.

Mann also defended the AAP-led government's welfare policies, particularly the 'Mukh Mantri Mavaan Dhian Yojna', which provides Rs 1,000 per month to women. He criticized opposition parties like the Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP, and Congress for what he called "frustration" and betrayal of election promises. Mann asserted that the AAP government has treated its manifesto as a sacred commitment, fulfilling guarantees within four years.

Registration for the women's financial aid scheme will begin on April 13, with all eligible beneficiaries encouraged to enrol. Mann emphasized that this amount is a mark of respect for mothers and daughters, bringing happiness across Punjab.

Healthcare and Education Reforms

Highlighting healthcare advancements, Mann noted that 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics have seen over five crore OPD visits, with growing public trust. He announced that medical colleges will be established in Lehragaga, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala, and 934 doctors have been recruited since 2022. Under the health insurance scheme, around 900 government and private hospitals are empanelled, providing free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh.

In education, 118 Schools of Eminence are being set up across Punjab to offer quality education. Teachers and principals are receiving training in Finland, Singapore, and IIM Ahmedabad, with 13,765 teachers recruited since 2022. Mann proudly mentioned that Punjab secured the top position in the National Achievement Survey 2024. He also emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence, with teachers being trained globally to educate students on AI.

Infrastructure and Agricultural Developments

Mann detailed infrastructure projects, including the renovation of the Ferozepur Feeder Canal and the construction of a new Malwa Canal, initiatives aimed at boosting agriculture. He noted that Punjab farmers receive the highest sugarcane price in the country at Rs 416 per quintal. Under the 'Roshan Punjab' initiative, Rs 5,000 crore is being spent on infrastructure, including underground electricity cables.

To enhance road safety, the ultra-modern Sadak Surakhya Force has been formed, reducing road accident deaths by 48%. Mann also mentioned the development of 3,200 sports grounds in villages and the establishment of village libraries to engage youth positively and combat drug abuse.

Anti-Corruption and Flood Relief Efforts

Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, Mann launched an anti-corruption helpline (95012-00200), resulting in over 1,000 arrests. He addressed last year's flood damage, providing compensation for crop losses, damaged houses, and livestock. Under the 'Jis Da Khet, Us Di Ret' scheme, farmers benefited significantly, with 84,889 quintals of wheat seed worth Rs 33.96 crore distributed free to flood-affected farmers.

Concluding the debate, Mann highlighted that 63,943 government jobs have been provided to youth transparently, without recommendations or bribery. He asserted that Punjab is firmly on the path of development, with progress set to accelerate in the coming years, driven by these comprehensive initiatives.
