Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday demanded that the minimum daily wage of labourers should be raised to Rs 750. He led a demonstration in support of the long-pending demands of labourers outside the Punjab assembly on Labour Day.
Criticism of AAP Government
Speaking on the occasion, Warring said, "The special session was a mere drama on the part of the Punjab government as it did nothing during the last four years when it had a chance to bring in laws for the welfare of the labourers." He further stated, "Holding a special session at the fag end of its term has only exposed the Aam Aadmi Party that it only wanted a drama in the name of labourers."
Demands for Wage Revision
Warring demanded that the minimum daily wage should be raised to Rs 750 in Punjab. Besides, he said, the monthly wages for unskilled labourers in Punjab should be between Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,000, for semi-skilled labourers between Rs 19,000 to Rs 20,000, and for skilled labourers between Rs 20,000 to Rs 22,000.
Congress Promise
He promised, "Once the Congress forms government after the elections in the state, it will ensure a minimum Rs 750 daily wage for labourers and will consider all other demands sympathetically."
