Major Religious and Political Gathering in Punjab Issues Ultimatum to Chief Minister
A significant religious and political assembly was convened on Saturday at Hawara Kalan village in the Khamano area of Fatehgarh Sahib district. The event centered on two primary objectives: advocating for the release of Bandi Singhs, referring to Sikh political prisoners, and reinforcing unity within the Panthic community.
Native Village of Jagtar Singh Hawara Hosts Prominent Leaders
The village holds particular significance as it is the native place of Jagtar Singh Hawara. The gathering attracted a wide array of notable figures, including prominent religious leaders, political representatives, and farmer leaders from across Punjab. This diverse participation underscored the broad support for the cause.
During the event, a resolution was presented by Pal Singh Faras, the convener of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha. This resolution delivered a direct ultimatum to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
One-Week Deadline Set for Parole Approval
The resolution explicitly demands that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann approve parole or leave for Jagtar Singh Hawara within one week. This permission is sought on humanitarian grounds to allow Hawara to visit his elderly and ailing mother. Faras revealed that the parole application has been pending with the authorities since October 2025, urging the state government to act swiftly.
The resolution stipulates that if the leave is not granted by March 1, the Sikh community will escalate its actions. On March 2, members plan to gather for collective prayers seeking divine intervention. Furthermore, the prayers will also demand the removal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from his position.
Protest organizers have declared that following these prayers, the agitation will be significantly intensified to press their demands.
High-Profile Attendance and Messages of Solidarity
The gathering was graced by several high-profile leaders, amplifying its importance. Attendees included former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, and Simranjit Singh Mann, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar). Their presence highlighted the cross-factional support within Panthic circles for the prisoner release issue.
Solidarity for the cause was further demonstrated through messages read to the congregation. A letter from Harjinder Singh Dhami was presented, expressing firm support for the struggle to secure the release of Sikh prisoners. Additionally, a message from incarcerated leader Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora was shared. His communication stressed the critical need for unity among various Sikh organizations to collectively and effectively pursue the issue of prisoner release.
The event in Hawara Kalan village marks a significant moment of mobilization, blending religious fervor with political demand, and setting a clear timeline for government action on a sensitive humanitarian issue.
