The Punjab State Election Commission has announced that municipal elections across the state will be held on May 26. In preparation, the commission has appointed PCS (Punjab Civil Services) officers as general observers in 23 districts to oversee the electoral process and ensure fairness.
Election Details and Preparations
The elections will cover municipal corporations, councils, and nagar panchayats. The commission has issued directives for the smooth conduct of polls, including the deployment of adequate security forces and the installation of electronic voting machines. The model code of conduct is already in effect, and candidates are required to comply with all guidelines.
Role of General Observers
The appointed PCS officers will act as the commission's representatives in their respective districts. Their responsibilities include monitoring the election campaign, ensuring adherence to the code of conduct, supervising the voting process, and reporting any irregularities. The officers have been instructed to maintain impartiality and coordinate with district administrations.
Districts Covered
The 23 districts where observers have been appointed include Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, and others. The commission has also set up a control room to address complaints and provide real-time updates.
Voters are encouraged to check their names on the electoral rolls and carry valid ID cards on polling day. The commission has urged all stakeholders to cooperate for a free and fair election.
