Family's Demand for Justice and Arrest of Former Minister
Randhawa's family had steadfastly refused to cremate him until former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was arrested. Bhullar, who resigned as minister at the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was booked for abetting suicide and other charges, including criminal intimidation and common intention under the BNS. He was arrested on Monday amid widespread protests by opposition leaders, leading the family to agree to the autopsy and subsequent cremation.

Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, serving as the district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar, allegedly ended his life by consuming poison early Saturday. A video surfaced in which he purportedly claimed harassment by Laljit Singh Bhullar. According to the FIR, Randhawa was called to Bhullar's residence in Patti on March 13, where he was allegedly humiliated and assaulted. His wife, Upinder Kaur, lodged a complaint stating that her husband was pressured to allot a warehouse tender to Bhullar's father and faced threats to his and his family's safety.
Political Fallout and Demands for CBI Probe
The suicide has triggered a significant political row, with opposition parties targeting the Bhagwant Mann government. A joint protest was held, demanding Bhullar's arrest and a CBI probe into the matter. After Bhullar's arrest, the family reiterated their demand for a CBI investigation. In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised to order a CBI inquiry if all Punjab MPs submit a written request.
