Contract workers of Punjab Roadways have announced a statewide chakka jam from May 25 to 27, demanding regularization of their services and implementation of other pending demands. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Punjab Roadways Contract Workers Union held in Jalandhar.
Union Leaders Announce Protest
Union leaders stated that the chakka jam would be observed across all major roads in Punjab, causing disruption to public transport. They warned that if their demands are not met, the protest would be intensified further.
Key Demands of Workers
- Regularization of contract workers
- Equal pay for equal work
- Implementation of minimum wage and other benefits
The workers have been demanding regularization for a long time, but the state government has not taken any concrete steps. The union has urged the government to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the state transport department has not issued any official statement regarding the protest. Commuters are likely to face inconvenience during the three-day chakka jam. The union has assured that emergency services would be exempted from the protest.
