A devastating road accident in Purnia district, Bihar, resulted in the deaths of three family members late Friday evening. The incident occurred near Raghunath Canal under the jurisdiction of the Sarsi police station area, as the victims were returning home from a tilak ceremony.

Details of the Tragic Collision

According to police reports, a speeding truck collided with an e-rickshaw carrying the family members. The impact was severe, leading to immediate fatalities and injuries. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, leaving the victims in a critical state.

Local residents, alerted by screams, rushed to the site and promptly informed the authorities. Police teams from both Sarsi and Dhamdaha police stations arrived swiftly, securing the area and initiating rescue operations.

Victims and Injured Identified

The deceased have been identified as Jago Rishi, aged 45, his son Kishan Kumar, 18, both residents of Kumari village in Dhamdaha, and Kanchan Devi, 40, the wife of Moti Rishi. The injured individuals include e-rickshaw driver Gutar Singh, Jagan Rishi, and another person whose name has not been disclosed.

The bodies were transported to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Purnia for post-mortem examinations. The injured were admitted to the hospital for urgent medical treatment, where they are currently undergoing care.

Family Statement and Official Response

Moti Rishi, a relative of the victims, provided a heartbreaking account of the events. He stated, "We had attended the tilak ceremony for Jago Rishi's daughter's wedding, scheduled for February 24, in Rahika village, Champanagar. Everyone was returning home in the e-rickshaw when an out-of-control truck rammed into us and fled immediately."

In response to the tragedy, Minister Leshi Singh visited GMCH to console the grieving family members. She assured them of all possible assistance from the government during this difficult time.

Police Investigation Underway

Sarsi police station SHO Raju Kumar confirmed that the e-rickshaw involved in the accident has been seized as part of the investigation. He added, "We are actively searching for the absconding truck driver. Our teams are working diligently to apprehend the culprit and ensure justice for the victims."

The police have launched a manhunt to locate the fleeing driver, emphasizing the seriousness of hit-and-run cases in the region. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and traffic enforcement in rural areas of Bihar.
