Rahul Gandhi was in Idukki on Friday to participate in an interaction programme with students at Marian College in Kuttikkanam. Following the two-hour event, he stayed overnight at a private resort in Glenmerry, Pampanar. On Saturday morning, around 9 am, he departed for Thiruvananthapuram, but his journey took an unexpected turn.

Approximately 1.5 kilometers into the trip, Rahul Gandhi noticed women workers plucking tea leaves in the estate and immediately instructed his driver to halt the vehicle. Initially surprised by the sudden appearance of the political leader, the workers quickly warmed up to his presence. They answered his questions about the intricacies of tea plucking and processing, providing a firsthand account of their daily routines.
With the assistance of Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose, who translated the conversation, the workers briefed Rahul Gandhi on the significant challenges confronting the plantation sector and estate workers.
