In a sharp escalation of political tensions, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of being deeply embroiled in land scams connected to the HPCL refinery located in Balotra's Pachpadra region. Speaking at a formal ceremony in Churu where he unveiled a statue of war hero Lieutenant General Sagat Singh Rathore, Chief Minister Sharma directly challenged former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to provide a detailed account of the Congress party's alleged misdeeds concerning the refinery project. Sharma asserted that the previous Congress government had rushed to inaugurate the refinery merely days before the 2013 Assembly election code of conduct came into effect, suggesting political motivations behind the timing.
"Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the refinery in 2018, implemented crucial improvements to its operations, and ensured that the Rajasthan government would receive a substantial 26% share for an extended period," Sharma declared during his address, drawing a clear distinction between the approaches of the two administrations.
Repeated Allegations in Jodhpur Rally
At a separate political rally held in Jodhpur's Osian area, Sharma reiterated his accusations of land misallocation and various irregularities that he claims occurred during the tenure of the previous Congress government. The Chief Minister emphasized that the HPCL refinery represents one of Rajasthan's most vital economic assets, making the alleged corruption particularly damaging to the state's interests.
Gehlot's Forceful Rebuttal
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot swiftly rejected all charges leveled by Sharma, counter-accusing the BJP government of attempting to divert public attention from both the recent fire accident at the refinery and what he described as significant delays in the facility's progress under the current administration. Gehlot pointed out that no official explanation had yet been provided regarding the cause of the blaze, characterizing Sharma's remarks as deliberately misleading.
"The claims about Prime Minister Modi ensuring the state's 26% equity share are completely false," Gehlot stated emphatically. "This arrangement was actually part of the project framework since 2013, long before the current government took office."
