Rajasthan Chief Minister Announces Enhanced LPG Allocation and Strict Anti-Hoarding Measures
In a significant move to ensure energy security and curb market manipulation, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday announced a substantial 10% increase in commercial LPG allocation across the state. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where he also directed officials to take strict action against hoarding and black marketing activities.
Enhanced Commercial LPG Quota and Additional Cylinder Allocation
"We must ensure that this is fully utilised and does not get misused," Sharma emphasized while referring to the enhanced commercial LPG quota. In addition to the 10% increase, the Chief Minister revealed that a 20% additional allocation of 5kg cylinders has been approved specifically for hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and small businesses operating throughout Rajasthan.
This strategic allocation aims to support the hospitality sector and small enterprises that heavily rely on LPG for their daily operations. Sharma stressed the importance of smooth and timely supply, directing officials to avoid any unnecessary delays in LPG delivery to consumers.
Reassurance on Fuel and Fertiliser Availability
Addressing concerns about potential shortages, Chief Minister Sharma provided firm reassurance to citizens, stating that petrol, diesel, LPG, and fertilisers are available in adequate quantities throughout the state. "There is no shortage in the state, and people should not be misled by rumours," he declared, urging residents to remain calm and avoid panic buying.
The Chief Minister specifically mentioned that even for weddings and large gatherings, proper arrangements must be ensured to guarantee uninterrupted LPG supply. This comprehensive approach aims to maintain normalcy during social events while preventing artificial scarcity.
Strengthened Monitoring and Grievance Redressal Mechanisms
To enhance oversight and address public concerns promptly, Sharma announced the activation of round-the-clock helplines specifically for LPG-related complaints. The dedicated numbers—181, 112, and 14435—have been established to provide immediate assistance to consumers facing issues with LPG supply or distribution.
"These must be monitored closely and addressed in a time-bound manner," Sharma instructed, asking the chief secretary to personally oversee the grievance redressal process. This multi-channel approach ensures that complaints receive proper attention and resolution without unnecessary delays.
Long-Term Infrastructure Development and Zero Tolerance Policy
Looking beyond immediate measures, Chief Minister Sharma called for long-term steps to reduce dependence on traditional LPG distribution methods. He emphasized the need for expanding the city gas distribution network across Rajasthan, stating, "We need to reduce dependence on LPG. Pipeline approvals should be expedited."
Simultaneously, Sharma issued a stern warning against any irregularities in the distribution system, declaring a "zero tolerance" policy against malpractices. This dual approach combines infrastructure development with strict enforcement to create a more resilient and transparent energy distribution framework for the state.
The comprehensive measures announced by the Rajasthan government reflect a proactive approach to energy management, combining immediate relief for businesses with long-term structural improvements to the state's energy infrastructure.
