Rajasthan CM Announces New Special Police Force for VIP and Industrial Security
In a significant move to bolster security across the state, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced the formation of a new special police force on Friday. The announcement was made during his reply to the debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Rajasthan Assembly in Jaipur.
Security Force for Key Installations
The proposed force is specifically designed for deployment at critical installations, including the Vidhan Sabha, Raj Bhavan, and airports. Chief Minister Sharma emphasized that this specialized unit will provide enhanced security to VIP establishments as well as industrial units throughout Rajasthan.
Historical Context of Unfulfilled Promises
However, similar announcements in recent years have faced challenges in implementation. In 2022, the previous Congress government proposed the Rajasthan Industrial Security Force (RISF) to safeguard industrial units, but the plan did not materialize. More recently, in 2024, the present government announced the creation of a separate Security Police Force (SPF) for the Jaipur commissionerate to manage VIP security. Despite these announcements, the force has yet to be fully established, raising questions about the feasibility of the latest proposal.
Enhanced Benefits for Police Personnel
In addition to the new force, Chief Minister Sharma proposed increasing the monthly mess allowance for police personnel from Rs 2,700 to Rs 2,850. This move aims to improve the welfare and morale of the state's law enforcement officers.
Strengthening Law and Order Infrastructure
To further strengthen law and order, Sharma outlined several key initiatives:
- The government will provide 1,250 vehicles to police stations and patrolling units.
- A total of 2,500 personnel will be deployed in a phased manner to these units.
- These resources will be integrated with Dial 112/100 emergency services to enhance response capabilities.
Expansion of Kalika Patrolling Units
Addressing concerns about women's safety, the Chief Minister proposed increasing the number of Kalika Patrolling Units from 500 to 600 in phases. These units are specifically tasked with preventing harassment of women in public places and addressing domestic violence and related crimes, reflecting a commitment to gender-sensitive policing.
The comprehensive announcements signal a renewed focus on security and law enforcement in Rajasthan, though past unfulfilled promises highlight the need for effective implementation to ensure these plans come to fruition.
