Rajasthan Minister Announces Relief Measures for Farmers After Recent Hailstorms
In Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, recent rain and hailstorms have caused significant crop losses, prompting government action. Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra addressed the situation, assuring farmers that compensation will be provided under relaxed norms.
Girdawari Underway for Crop Damage Assessment
Speaking to reporters in Sikar on Saturday, Minister Kharra detailed the process for assessing crop damage. "Girdawari is being conducted at the government level to evaluate losses," he said. Additionally, he highlighted a modern approach: "Farmers can also upload details of losses from their fields using a mobile app, ensuring a comprehensive assessment." This dual-channel method aims to expedite relief efforts and provide accurate data for compensation distribution.
Relaxed Compensation Norms Compared to Previous Regime
Kharra took a dig at the previous Congress government, emphasizing improvements in compensation policies. "There was a time when compensation was given only if crop damage exceeded 50%. Now, farmers are eligible at 33%, and the compensation amount has also been increased," he stated. This change is expected to benefit more farmers affected by the recent weather events, providing financial support to mitigate losses.
Comments on Political Developments and Leadership
On the political front, Kharra addressed remarks by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, noting, "Such phases are common in politics—fortunes rise and fall." He made these comments during a Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jayanti event, where he also spoke about inclusivity in leadership. "Great leaders belong to all communities and should not be confined to any one community," he added, reflecting on broader societal values.
The minister's statements come amid ongoing assessments of crop damage in the region, with authorities working to ensure timely relief for affected farmers. The use of technology, such as mobile apps, is part of efforts to streamline the process and enhance transparency in compensation distribution.
