Rajasthan Panchayat Voter List Finalized with 4.02 Crore Electors
State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh announced on Wednesday that the final published voter list for elections to panchayati raj institutions in Rajasthan has a total of 4.02 crore voters. This figure represents a net increase of 5.73 lakh voters compared to the previously published draft list, marking a significant update in the electoral roll ahead of the upcoming local body polls.
Gender-Wise Breakdown and District-Level Variations
Singh provided a detailed breakdown of the voter demographics, revealing that the list comprises 2.08 crore male voters, 1.93 crore female voters, and 207 transgender voters. This inclusive approach underscores the state's commitment to ensuring representation across all gender identities in the democratic process.
At the district level, Banswara recorded the highest increase of 4.5% from the draft list, followed closely by Phalodi with a 4.4% rise. In contrast, Tonk district saw the minimum increase of just 0.04%, with Sriganganagar following at 0.19%. These variations highlight regional differences in voter registration activities and population dynamics.
Revision Process and Legal Framework
The draft voter list was initially published on January 29, after which claims and objections were invited from the public. Following the disposal of these submissions, the final electoral roll was officially published on Wednesday. This meticulous revision process is mandated by Section 18(1) of the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, which requires the preparation of three distinct types of voter lists:
- Voter list for each ward of the gram panchayat
- Voter list for each constituency of the panchayat samiti
- Voter list for each constituency of the zila parishad
Singh elaborated that the draft list contained 3.96 crore voters. During the revision phase, 1,366,435 new voters were added, while 792,867 voters were removed due to various factors such as deaths, relocations, or duplicate entries. The net result was an increase of 5.73 lakh voters, reflecting both the addition of eligible citizens and the cleanup of outdated records.
This finalized voter list sets the stage for the upcoming panchayati raj elections, ensuring that the electoral process is based on accurate and up-to-date data. The increase in voter numbers, particularly in districts like Banswara and Phalodi, may influence political strategies and campaign efforts as parties prepare to engage with a larger electorate.
