Ranchi witnessed a significant development push on Tuesday as Union Minister of State for Defence conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing Ratu Road Elevated Corridor project. The focus of the visit was the optimal utilization of the substantial vacant land beneath the elevated structure near OTC Ground.
Minister's Directive for Community-Centric Development
During the inspection near key landmarks like Naga Baba Khatal and Lok Bhavan, the minister engaged with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Jharkhand Olympic Association. He issued clear instructions to transform the unused area into a hub for public welfare and recreation.
The Ranchi MP proposed a comprehensive plan for the space. He asked the authorities to establish an indoor games centre, a public park, and an open gym. To address civic concerns, the plan also includes creating parking facilities and safe pedestrian crossings to ensure convenience for people moving in the area.
Focus on Public Interest and Safety
"There is a large vacant space under the corridor. Discussions were held to utilize it in public interest by developing an open gym, park and parking facilities," the minister stated. He emphasized that instructions have been issued for proper road crossings to prevent public inconvenience. "These initiatives will soon take shape on the ground," he assured.
NHAI's Stance on Safety and Feasibility
While the proposals have been put forward, the NHAI has clarified that a thorough examination is mandatory. Project director Ekta Kumari outlined the next steps, stating that once formal proposals are received, they will undergo rigorous evaluation. "They will be evaluated based on risk factors and technical parameters. Permissions will be finalised accordingly," she explained. This indicates that the community amenities project will proceed only after a detailed safety and feasibility audit by the highway authority.
The move is seen as a step towards enhancing urban infrastructure in Ranchi by leveraging underutilized spaces for direct public benefit, pending necessary approvals.
