Ranchi Traffic Gridlock Intensifies on Major City Roads
Traffic snarls across critical Ranchi arteries, including Main Road, Circular Road, Station Road, and Ratu Road, are escalating, causing significant disruptions for commuters and residents alike. Officials have pinpointed several persistent issues as the primary drivers behind this mounting chaos, with encroachment, illegal parking, and insufficient enforcement topping the list.
Municipal Corporation and Authorities Devise Long-Term Strategy
Alarmed by the deteriorating situation, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), in collaboration with traffic police and the district administration, is actively formulating a comprehensive, long-term plan aimed at streamlining vehicle movement and alleviating congestion. This initiative seeks to address the root causes rather than providing temporary fixes.
Key Issues Highlighted in High-Level Review Meeting
During a pivotal review meeting convened on Wednesday and led by Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, officials delved into the core problems exacerbating traffic woes. The discussion focused on peak-hour gridlocks, the unregulated operations of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws, and the prevalence of damaged or non-functional traffic signals.
Commissioner Gaurav emphasized, "Encroachment and a general lack of compliance with traffic rules are fundamental reasons behind the persistent traffic snarls. To effectively tackle these challenges, we require a coordinated, sustained, and long-term approach involving all stakeholders."
Proposed Infrastructure and Enforcement Measures
SSP (Traffic) Rakesh Singh outlined specific measures to bolster traffic management. These include strengthening physical infrastructure such as bollards, barricades, clear road markings, and appropriately placed speed breakers to regulate flow and enhance safety on congested routes.
Joint Inspections Planned for Targeted Interventions
To translate plans into action, a joint team comprising civic officials from the RMC and personnel from the traffic police will conduct detailed inspections at key congestion hotspots. The objective is to meticulously identify specific problem areas and devise targeted, effective interventions to restore order and improve traffic conditions across Ranchi.
