Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday offered an olive branch to those who joined the Eknath Shinde-led faction, saying they could rectify their 'mistake' if they regretted their decision. Speaking to reporters, Raut said, 'If anyone feels they made a mistake by joining Shinde, they are welcome to come back. We are ready to forgive them.'
Allegations Against Shinde Faction
Raut also launched a scathing attack on the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, alleging that it was not a legitimate political party but a product of the 'corrupt practices' of the Election Commission of India. He claimed that the EC's recognition of the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena was based on questionable grounds and that the party had no ideological foundation.
Call for Unity
The senior politician urged party workers to remain united and not be swayed by what he termed as 'opportunistic politics'. He emphasized that the original Shiv Sena, founded by Bal Thackeray, stood for Hindutva and Marathi pride, values he accused the Shinde faction of betraying.
Raut's comments come amid ongoing political turmoil in Maharashtra, where the Shinde faction has been locked in a bitter battle with the Uddhav Thackeray-led camp over the party's symbol and legacy. The Election Commission's decision to award the 'bow and arrow' symbol to the Shinde group has further escalated tensions.
Political Implications
Political analysts view Raut's offer as a strategic move to weaken the Shinde faction by encouraging dissent within its ranks. However, it remains to be seen if any defectors will take up the offer, given the high stakes involved in the ongoing legal and political battles.
The Shinde camp has dismissed Raut's statements as desperate and baseless, reiterating that their support base remains strong. Meanwhile, the Uddhav Thackeray faction continues to challenge the EC's decision in court, hoping to reclaim the party's original identity.
