A 24-year-old recovery agent from Ulhasnagar has been booked for allegedly stabbing his 23-year-old female college friend and her 25-year-old male colleague in the busy Khopat area of Thane on Friday evening. Both victims sustained deep stab wounds but are now out of danger, according to the police. The attack is suspected to have been triggered by one-sided love.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place around 6:45 pm near the Cadbury Signal when the woman, a resident of Kalyan, and her colleague, a resident of Diva, were walking home after work. Both are employed at a private company. The accused, who was reportedly lying in wait, approached them from behind armed with a sharp object and began stabbing them indiscriminately.
Several onlookers gathered at the scene and attempted to stop the accused. When he tried to attack them, the crowd overpowered him, thrashed him, and handed him over to the police.
Victims and Accused Condition
Senior Inspector Hemant Patil of Rabodi police station stated that the male colleague suffered deep stab wounds and was admitted to a nearby private hospital, where he is now out of danger. The woman is also recuperating. The accused, booked for attempt to murder, was rushed to a government hospital and is undergoing treatment for his injuries as well.
Possible Motive
Investigating officials suspect the attack was fueled by jealousy. The accused, who studied at the same college as the woman, had previously proposed marriage to her, which she refused. The police believe he may have suspected the woman was involved with her colleague and attacked them in a fit of rage. Statements from the complainant, her friend, and the accused are yet to be recorded as they are still recovering.
