Varanasi: Highlighting the significance of regional political parties, RJD Rajya Sabha member Manoj K Jha asserted that regional parties are essential to India's diversity. He warned that anyone who believes regional parties will eventually disappear is essentially praying for the ruin of India. "The idea of India is the idea of diversity, the idea of plurality," he added.
Addressing the 'Future of Regional Parties' Discussion
Jha was speaking at a discussion on the 'Future of Regional Parties' held in Varanasi on Saturday. The event was organized by Banaras Utsav, and a book authored by senior journalist Sunita Aron was also released on the occasion.
Coalition as India's Identity
"I am a strong supporter of coalition because I see the identity of India as a coalition in itself," Jha said. He elaborated that India is a coalition of cuisine, ideas, fundamentals, regions, and attitudes on multiple levels. He pointed out that every district in Tamil Nadu and Kerala has its own regional party, and Kerala's diversity and progress are exemplary. He criticized those who advocate for a strong central government that can act without checks, implying that such a view undermines the federal structure.
