RJD MP Sudhakar Singh Demands Compensation for Bihar Farmers After Storm Damage
RJD MP from Buxar, Sudhakar Singh, has formally written to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, urgently seeking compensation for farmers whose Rabi crops were severely damaged by recent storms and heavy rainfall across the state. In his letter sent on Sunday, Singh highlighted the widespread destruction caused by sudden weather changes between March 19 and 21, which have left agricultural lands in disarray.
Extensive Crop Damage Reported Across Bihar
Singh detailed that standing Rabi crops, including wheat, maize, and mustard, along with pulse crops such as arhar (pigeon pea) and masoor (lentil), have been severely affected. The MP expressed deep concern over the situation, noting that thousands of farmers who invested months of hard work are now facing serious financial and mental distress. He emphasized that the loss of mature crops is not only an economic setback but also a direct threat to the livelihoods of farming communities, potentially leading to long-term instability in rural areas.
Call for Immediate Government Action
In response to the crisis, Singh has urged the state government to form a high-level team to conduct an immediate and thorough survey of the affected areas. He called for a comprehensive assessment of the damage and demanded fair and prompt compensation for the losses suffered by the farmers. The MP expressed hope that the state government would take swift action and implement necessary relief measures to support the distressed agricultural sector, ensuring that farmers receive adequate aid to recover from this natural disaster.
Singh's letter underscores the urgent need for governmental intervention in the wake of the storm, as farmers grapple with the aftermath of the unexpected weather event. The situation highlights broader issues of climate resilience and support systems for agriculture in Bihar, calling for proactive measures to mitigate future risks.
