Political Storm Erupts as Rohini Acharya Exits Family and Politics
The political landscape of Bihar was shaken when Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced she was disowning her family and quitting politics entirely. The dramatic decision came after she leveled serious allegations of physical abuse and humiliation against her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, and his close aide, RJD MP Sanjay Yadav.
Political Reactions Pour In Over Family Feud
The political fraternity was quick to respond to the internal crisis within one of Bihar's most prominent political families. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari stated that the apparent rift reflects the "mentality" of a regime that allowed "jungle raj" to flourish in Bihar for years. "Those who aspired to run the entire state of Bihar were now unable to manage their own families," Tiwari told ANI on Sunday.
Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Sanjay Jha described the situation as a "Mahabharat" within the family, noting the irony that "the daughter who gave her kidney to his father is saying that." Meanwhile, JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar questioned the silence of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, asking why they weren't speaking up for "Lakshmi" - referring to Rohini who saved her father's life through kidney donation.
Rohini's Heartbreaking Allegations
In an emotional post on social media platform X, Rohini Acharya detailed her traumatic experience. She claimed she was "humiliated," "abused," and even faced the threat of being hit with a slipper. "Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, abuses were hurled, shoes were raised to kill her," she wrote in Hindi.
The confrontation allegedly occurred after Rohini stood up for her rights and dignity, refusing to compromise her values despite family pressure. The backlash, according to her account, was brutal - culminating in her expulsion from the parental home. She specifically mentioned "Sanjay and Rameez" as master strategists who ignored feedback from grassroots workers.
Broader Implications for RJD and Bihar Politics
This development comes at a critical time for the RJD, which performed poorly in the recent Bihar assembly elections, securing just 25 seats despite contesting on more than 140 seats in the 243-member assembly. Rohini indicated that her decision to sever family ties was connected to taking blame for the party's poor electoral performance.
This isn't the first family dispute to surface publicly. Earlier this year, Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from both the party and family following controversies around his personal life. His former wife, Aishwarya Rai, had also spoken out about family dynamics during the election period.
The RJD spokesperson, Mrityunjay Tiwari, initially described the matter as a "family issue" that would be reviewed by top leadership. However, with prominent political figures from rival parties weighing in, the internal family matter has transformed into a significant political controversy that could impact the future of the Lalu Yadav political dynasty in Bihar.
