Rupali Chakankar Steps Down as NCP Women's Wing President Following Controversy
In a significant political development, Rupali Chakankar has resigned from her position as the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) women's wing. "On the first day of the Kharat case coming to light, I have made my stand clear. I am not even remotely connected with his financial transaction or evil deed," Chakankar wrote. She expressed distress over what she called baseless allegations and emphasized her commitment to transparency. "During the course of investigation, all the facts will come out, but it is painful to see some baseless allegations are being made against me," she added.
Chakankar further stated that she has already communicated with key officials, including the chief minister, deputy chief minister, and Director General of Police, urging for an impartial investigation into Kharat's case.

The controversy deepened with claims from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare, who alleged that Chakankar had absolved music director Anu Malik in a sexual harassment case. Andhare asserted that after this, Chakankar's son, Soham Chakankar, secured work in a film produced by Malik.
In response, Anu Malik firmly denied these allegations. He clarified that he had not provided any work or favors to Chakankar's son. Malik pointed out that he had first received a clean chit from the National Commission for Women, followed by a similar clearance from the Maharashtra women's commission. "I have not given any work and done no favours to anyone. There was no role given to any person," the music director stated, refuting Andhare's claims.
