Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Majitha, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, has accused Majitha Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamalmeet Singh of misconduct and submitted complaints to the State Election Commission (SEC) of Punjab and the Director General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday, seeking action against the officer.
Allegations of Misbehavior
In her complaints, Ganieve alleged that the DSP misbehaved with her in a disrespectful and intimidating manner on May 18, despite her being a member of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. She also claimed that the DSP misbehaved with women councillors and female workers who were waiting outside the SDM office since 9:30 am in scorching heat along with their children and family members on the day of scrutiny of nomination papers for the May 26 elections to urban civic bodies.
Demand for Action
The SAD MLA has requested an impartial inquiry and disciplinary action against the officer. She also urged that the DSP be transferred out during the election period to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. Additionally, she wrote to the Punjab Assembly Speaker, requesting him to take cognisance of the incident and consider privilege proceedings against the officer.
DSP's Response
When contacted, DSP Kamalmeet Singh refuted all allegations. He stated that there was no misconduct on his part and that video footage of the incident shows he did not misbehave. He emphasized that the videos are available for everyone to see.
The matter has sparked political tensions in the region, with the SLD MLA demanding strict action to uphold the dignity of elected representatives and ensure a level playing field during the upcoming civic body elections.
