SAD Vows to Reopen Attari, Fazilka Borders for Trade

SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal Announces Pre-Poll Promises for Punjab's Border Belt

In a significant pre-election announcement, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal declared on Saturday that his party would prioritize the reopening of the Attari and Fazilka borders for trade with Central Asian countries if they form the government in Punjab. Speaking at a rally as part of the SAD's ongoing 'Punjab Bachao' movement in Attari, Badal emphasized the critical need to revitalize the region's economy, which has suffered due to border closures.

Commitment to Boost International Trade and Industrial Growth

Badal outlined a comprehensive plan to transform Amritsar into a hub for international trade by facilitating the export of fruits, vegetables, and other commodities to Central Asian nations. He stated, "Once elected, we will ensure both the Attari and Fazilka borders are opened for export, which will benefit the entire region and make Amritsar a key player in global commerce." Accompanying him was senior leader Gulzar Singh Ranike, who highlighted the urgent need for industrial development in the border belt, especially after many industries migrated to hill states for better concessions.

The SAD is committed to establishing a special industrial zone in the border area, offering a financial package to incentivize investments. This initiative aims to rejuvenate the local economy and create job opportunities, addressing the economic downturn caused by industrial flight.

Allegations Against Central Agencies and AAP Government

During his address, Badal made serious allegations against central agencies, accusing them of defaming the SAD and taking control of religious institutions like Sri Hazoor Sahib and Takht Patna Sahib. He claimed, "They are striving to dislodge the Badal family to install a puppet they can control." Additionally, he alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is conspiring to register a case against him, further escalating political tensions.

Badal also took note of recent cases registered against Akali leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia and Tarn Taran leader Kanchanpreet Kaur, as well as party cadre. He announced, "Once we form the government in 2027, we will establish a commission to probe all these false cases. Those responsible, including officers involved in illegal conduct, will face legal action."

Pledge to Investigate Corruption and Land Deals

In a bold move, Badal declared that the SAD is committed to pursuing alleged corrupt practices of the AAP government. He specifically mentioned the purchase of 2,500 acres of land by Bhagwant Mann in Australia, vowing to investigate this matter thoroughly if his party comes to power. This announcement underscores the SAD's focus on accountability and transparency in governance.

The rally and these promises are part of the SAD's broader strategy to regain political ground in Punjab, addressing economic woes and political grievances ahead of future elections.
