Veteran Samajwadi Leader Sudhakar Singh Passes Away at 67
Samajwadi Party MLA Sudhakar Singh, the elected representative from Ghosi Assembly constituency, breathed his last on Thursday at a private hospital in Lucknow. The 67-year-old politician had been battling health complications before his unfortunate demise.
Sudhakar Singh had been serving as the Ghosi MLA since 2023 after securing a significant victory in the bypoll. His political journey saw him defeat former minister Dara Singh Chauhan by an impressive margin of over 42,000 votes, marking a remarkable comeback in his political career.
Political Leaders Pay Heartfelt Tributes
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav personally visited the hospital where Sudhakar Singh was receiving treatment and expressed his profound grief. In an emotional post on social media platform X, Yadav described the MLA's passing as "extremely heartbreaking" and offered prayers for peace to his departed soul.
The Samajwadi Party, in an official statement, honored Sudhakar Singh by referring to him as 'Sacche Samajwadi' or true socialist, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the party's ideals.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also joined in mourning the loss, posting a heartfelt tribute on X. The CM expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to Lord Ram to grant eternal peace to the departed soul while providing strength to the grieving family members.
A Storied Political Career
Sudhakar Singh's political association with the Samajwadi Party spanned more than three decades, demonstrating remarkable loyalty through various political challenges. His first electoral victory from Ghosi came in the 2012 Assembly elections when he defeated Phagu Chauhan, who was then serving as a minister in Mayawati's BSP government.
The veteran politician's dedication to the party was tested when he was denied a ticket during the 2022 Assembly elections. Despite this setback, he remained with the SP, showcasing his commitment to the party's principles and values.
The circumstances that led to his 2023 bypoll victory were particularly noteworthy. The seat became vacant after Dara Singh Chauhan, who had left the BJP before the 2022 elections to join SP and won the Ghosi seat, switched allegiance back to the BJP following Yogi Adityanath's return to power.
According to sources close to the development, Sudhakar Singh's health began deteriorating shortly after he attended the wedding of Umar Ansari, the younger son of former MLA Mukhtar Ansari, in Delhi. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Varanasi for treatment before being transferred to the private hospital in Lucknow where he eventually passed away.
Sudhakar Singh's demise marks the end of an era for the Samajwadi Party in eastern Uttar Pradesh, leaving behind a legacy of political resilience and dedicated service to his constituents.
