Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai Highlights Road Connectivity Achievements
Margao: Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai on Wednesday stated that he has successfully connected every remote village in his constituency with a motorable road during his tenure. He made this announcement while inaugurating the hot-mixing of a road at Mangal, a hilltop hamlet located in the Cavre-Pirla panchayat area.
“Before I became the MLA of Sanguem, many remote villages lacked proper road access. All these roads have been developed during my tenure,” Dessai asserted.
The MLA also took a subtle dig at political rivals who are expected to campaign in the region. “With elections approaching, many politicians will visit you. Ask them where they were all these years and why they did not come for the last five years. I visit this place at least two to three times every year to understand the grievances of the villagers,” he said.
Phal Dessai recalled that there was no road to the village until 2008. “We attempted to construct one, but the forest department damaged it three times because a portion of the stretch fell under their jurisdiction. No contractor was willing to undertake the work due to the steep gradient, which requires a specialized roller,” he explained.
To resolve the stalemate, Dessai said the road work was divided into two sections. The undisputed stretch was completed without difficulty, while he deposited funds for the contested portion and instructed the contractor to proceed. “In case of any eventuality, I would bear the loss,” he told the contractor. The road was eventually hot-mixed after he became MLA in 2012, he added.
